I suspect the poster is enjoying a little wind up here. Wind ups provide a sense of "power" to some people I guess? :-)
One dodgy game in 2 seasons hardly equates to "demise" but his age is catching up and you would not be wanting Zab as first choice next season but he still competes at 100% and can do a job.
I actually think we need to better full backs than we have at present but the priority remains the central midfield role to have a younger, stronger, technical equivalent but faster option to Noble, Snoddy, Obiang.

Cullen and Fernandez are nowhere near good enough to play alongside Rice.

Re: Demise of Pablo Zabaleta

I am not saying that his career is over on the basis of his one mistake in the Fulham match. That was very out of character for him actually. But his general lack of pace and the fact that our opposition are exploiting it - is the major concern that I have. Plank - Yedlin would be the best right back we have had since Glen Johnson.
Mike as to the left back situation - I think we should sell Masuaka before we get another backup to Cresswell. And I definitely would say RB is more immediate need. As to the centre midfielder - We do have Noble, who is fading and I keep hoping that one of Edmilson Fernandes or Josh Cullen are going to gain a place alongside Declan. Fernandes has looked good at times - and seems competent at Fiorentina. I think we can agree that a striker is top of the list (if Arnie goes) or even if we want to find a partner for Arnie. Chicharito is first on my to be shot (of) list. I cant stand him - even though he is one of ours - he cheats, he dives, he doesnt contest for 50/50s. That is presumably the salary of which you speak.

We got him at the end of his career but what an example he has been. After so much success at City he could have come to us, as many others have, copped a decent wedge for a couple of years without any worries. However he is a fantastic professional and without ever acting like “billy big bollocks” he has put his experience, ability and class to work for the good of the team. If this is his last season then I wish him well for the future and would love to see him stay with us when he has retired. I suspect however that his first love, City, will come in for him.

He has come here and done a job for us, in fact has been superb at times this season. By his own admittance he probably will not be playing for us next season, and that’s fair. Top pro tho and should be remembered fondly by all here.

Speaking as an older gentleman*, I hate having time out from playing, as, at my age, fitness just evaporates.
Admittedly, I'm much, much older than PZ.

I'd have him in the squad no doubt, he's far superior to Carroll but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him as our main striker and the sort of money we'd have to pay for him wouldn't represent good value for me. Looks a 20m player but they'd be wanting double that figure. Fuck that.

He has been triffic. Demise is harsh, he is a very important part of out squad. I think Fredericks edges him at the moment, but things can change quickly. It’s odd, it is best he does not play every game for physical fitness reasons, but miss too many games (as he just did) and he looks not match fit!?!

Zabaleta strikes me as a man of honour.
If HE thinks he's done, he'll be off in the summer. Widely reported Manchester City's global oil/football network will give him a fine job coaching/scouting. Maybe in his home country.
He's been triffic for us, but it's surely folly to plan around next season with him anywhere near us.

Actually, most are supportive of Zabaleta.
And even the OP is only fickle if he used to like Zabaleta.

I've not read the whole post but it was only at Fulham that people were singing "sign him up, two more years".

Vexed I partially agree. At the same time if we want a bully that's going to hold up the ball well then he'd be an adequate replacement. In an ideal world we'd get a "world class centre forward" but I doubt that will ever happen with these owners
